Our intern program is a partnership with Foxhollow Farm.
Foxhollow Farm is a 1300 acre Biodynamic farm community located in Crestwood, Kentucky, 15 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to leasing land to Pavel's Garden and other growers, the farm raises 100% grassfed beef on 650 acres of pasture. The interns work in Pavel's Garden, tend to Foxhollow's educational raised bed garden, and assist with the farm’s pick your own pumpkin patch and Sorghum Sudan Grass “corn” maze for the annual Foxhollow Fall Festival. The Internship Program is co-lead by Pavel Ovechkin and Maggie Keith, a 4th generation land steward of Foxhollow Farm. The interns work with Pavel in the field on Mondays and Fridays and with Maggie Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Interns sell produce with Pavel at Douglass Loop Farmers Market and Foxhollow grassfed beef at St. Mathews Farmers’ Markets on Saturdays. Interns are expected to work 40-50 hours per week with Sundays off. The job may require very early morning, evening, and weekend work. Under Pavel's Garden, interns will learn different aspects of market gardening and running a CSA such as how to utilize cover crops, suppress weeds, and build healthy soil using organic and biodynamic methods. Our team grows a wide range of vegetables in all four seasons. Throughout the duration of the farm stay, interns will get to see the process of growing for market from seed to harvest and storage with all the steps in between. Our goal of the internship program is to give individuals a foundation in holistic agricultural practices and to help cultivate a strong farming community in the Louisville area. Interns have access to a library of books on organic and biodynamic farming along with business planning templates and resources. To further the educational experience we take several field trips to regional farms so that interns can see a range of operations in action and connect with local farmers.
